EggWatch 2018 Updates

Patience. Unfortunately, patience is one of those virtues lacking from my personality. These Ladies of SoBro are 19-17 weeks old and this Chickie Momma still can’t brag about the fresh eggs in her backyard.

I can be the distracted employee at work speed checking coop footage to see who’s been in the nesting boxes. I can also be the one encouraging family and friend a to make their predictions on the 1st Great 2018 Egg Drop.

It's been fun to watch who makes the most daily trips to the nesting area (Mae) and who seems to still view that area as their nighttime roosting area (Amelia). In the recent days Gerty has been keeping up with Mae on visits and on the number of pecks at the nest. There have been several appearances by the Littles, Ada and Nettie, although Ada isn't sure what the big deal is. Another infrequent visitor has been Vera, which is shocking considering her affinity to Mae, her age, and size.

Two days have passed with 5 incorrect guesses and today appears to add 2 more into the "better luck next time" category. It's been a blast to see who sticks true to their favorite lady, or at least the one name they remember, and who just makes a wild guess. My pick was Mae for today and as much as I hate to admit it, I think she took the extra attention, frozen watermelon treat, and allowed stroll around the yard this morning bribes with no intent on producing an egg. I stand by her being our first layer- her comb is turning a beautiful red and her mature hen behavior is there. Team Mae all the way. C'on Chickie #1 the suspense of what color your eggs will be is killing me!
