10 Week Hatch Day Update: Vera

The only time Vera isn't calm is when treats are present and she's trying to outstretch one of her little sisters to reach the treat. She loves her Chickie Parents and will dart to chirp a hello, even if it means jumping the door jam when the water is being filled. With the creation of the play ground in the coop, Vera is often occupying a swing. Unfortunately, to the dismay of her sisters she treats it less like a swing and more like a perch.

Vera quickly grew to rival her older sister Mae in size. At 10 weeks she weighs in at 2 pounds and 4 ounces and is always part of the organizing crew for the nightly parade. She also seems skeptical of the camera system in the coop, frequently pecking at the USB hub, perhaps in an attempt to disable the parental surveillance.

Vera loves to graze on all the fresh Hosta leaves in the yard.  Unfortunately she also loves to devour anything and everything else in the flower garden!  She loves large leaves and also to feast on treats of cabbage, romaine and fresh cut grass clippings. She is a frequent occupant of the dust bath with her sister Gerty. Vera also loves to cuddle up to Chickie Momma but hates to be separated from her sisters.

Of the three pairs of chickies, Vera and Gerty are most often together. Whether she is perching on a branch, lounging in the dust bath or free ranging in the yard they are often side by side.
