Ada "Boron" Blue Laced Red Wyandotte

Hatched 19 March 2018

With the list of STEM Ladies picked, it was only appropriate that one of the "laced" varieties had Ada Lovelace as her namesake. Our little Ada is a bundle of fluff who has wings that flap in excitement when meal worms are dropped into the brooder. She zooms around, snatching one up in her beak and takes a victory lap with it before retreating to a corner to munch it down. Luckily, she has very little competition for the treats or this pip squeak would have to muster all of her moxie to satisfy her addiction.

Picking Chickie 5 was a challenge with similar chick appearances between the Blue Laced Red Wyandotte and Welsummer. Okay, maybe they all didn't look the same but when you're a sucker for the chipmunk stripes it limits options. Ada has a marbled face and for now, that and abundance of fuzz and smaller size are how you tell her apart from Gerty. Her markings make it a challenge to photograph her, but now that we know her love for mealworms, we may have some better success! She'll be happy and maybe even devise an equation to maximize her collection potential.
